Well, we wanted to hit PKD one more time during the summer and it was the last chance we would have (given other commitments during the week and the lack of weekday operations after Labor Day Weekend. So, Java and I headed south to meet with a friend, her son and a friend of the son.
I in my not thinking quite straight due to recovering from opening weekend of faire forget to bring my friend's cell phone number with me. I have her home phone. So, I call her home phone a leave a message hoping that her husband will get it and will call her. I promise to call back later to see if I can get the cell number if necessary. So, we take care of some paperwork (aka processing Java's pass for next year) and head into the park. We start (as usual) with a quick trip through the pirate treasure cave (I still miss some of the Yogi stuff that was taken out but like some of the more recent changes ... like cascading plants to cover the non-waterfall. Then we head to the Scooby and wait a short time (one or two trains I think). Then off to the haunted Mansion where Java tells me that the loser will buy the winner a game of ski-ball. Well, I won, 1380 to 1320. Tee Hee.
So, we head over to Volcano which has very little line and decide to wait for the front car. WHeeee! I think it was running as smooth and fast as I have ever ridden that coaster. The view was amazing. Clear air, blue sky with picture perfect little fluffy clouds here and there. Sky, Avalanche, Sky, Tombraider, Sky, Shockwave, Sky, Rebel Yell, Sky, Anaconda. All sweeping past my eyes as I laugh with glee and fun. What a beautiful ride on a beautiful day with a wonderful person. *sigh* I love moments like those.
So, we decided to head to Anaconda to see if we could find the others since P really likes that ride and we look around and I see a familiar profile. Yea! we found D who then called over M (P's friend) to meet us and P came off the ride. Off we trooped to Avalanche which had a slight delay in operation. D got in one train and the other four of us got another. The mid-course brakes were on fairly hard but I still enjoyed the ride. Then we scrambled ourselves and decided food was a Good Thing.
Java had printed off a coupon that said Buy 1, get 1 $8 off at the Pizza places. The problem is that the coupon was scheduled to be valid starting Sept. 1 ... and it was now Aug. 29 so the coupon wasn't in the system yet. Ooops. We ended up eating about 1/2 of our 2 pizzas before they worked it out at the register but they let us eat instead of standing and waiting. Then Java and I rode Free Fall and while it was a lot higher than I really liked and went a LOT faster than I expected; I managed to be mostly OK on it. I was in a good zone while waiting to go up and mostly stayed there while going up. I did get an excellent view of where next year's ride is going in (where Diamond Falls used to be).
Off to Rebel Yell we went and it was not running as well as I would have liked but it was still fun. Backwards wasn't running at all. Then we visited Riccochet and the others waited while Java and I rode the carousel ... and since it was the anniversary of the proposal, we rode in a chariot and were apparently disgustingly cute. Then we headed towards the theatre. The 3 adults went to see School of Rock and while it was wel done, the decibel level was absurdly high. The boys did the antique cars, flying eagles and P did Grizzly while M did the eagles again. We all did SpongeBob (air-conditioning), one more run through Haunted Mansion (I had 1220, M had 1230, Java had 980 and P had 900 ... I would have done better but M kept moving his head and blocking my shots ... D was in a car by herself and with a single gun got 2780 or something like that). We got some drinks and headed out. Java and I got gas on the way home for $2.39/gal.
All in all a tiring but fun day. It was nice to have a no-brain day at the park. And listening to Spamalot again was cool too.
