Java and I bought an EZ pass to share across our cars (which other people I know did in the past) since we don't always use the same car for everything that might want/need an EZ pass. However, when it came, it looks like you glue it to the windshield directly rather than glue a holder and slide it in/out as needed. Now that Maryland doesn't charge a fee for not using the thing and with more roads being EZ Pass only, it became a necessity for us.
So, if you know, please explain to this luddite how to safely and effectively mount and unmount an EZ Pass. Java and I have a trip to the eastern shore coming up soon and we need to have this working for that.
This is a Maryland EZ Pass if that helps.

Date: 2021-05-11 12:14 pm (UTC)- To mount our EZ passes, we use 3M Command hanging strips [1], which are like a stronger form of velcro. And instead of having two separate sides like velcro's hook and loop, the two sides of Command strips are identical, and lock into each other. Attach one side to the back of the EZ pass; attach the other side to each of your windshields. (Again, since the Command strips are identical sides, you can paste strips onto as many windshields as you need, and the side on the EZ passs can "velcro" onto all of them.) You can then just "velcro" the EZ pass on and off whichever windshield you need the EZ pass on. But...
- You could just not bother to mount the EZ pass at all. During the two years when Elspeth was still in Baltimore and I was in Charlotte, and I came home every weekend I could, I had to use an EZ pass for the Baltimore harbor tunnel from BWI to Elspeth. But since I was renting a car every time, I obviously couldn't mount my EZ pass - and I didn't need to. I just carried my EZ pass in my bag, and then just lifted it up to the windshield when I passed under the EZ Pass sensor.
Point being, at least back then, you didn't have to actually mount the EZ Pass if you don't want to go through the trouble. Even though the license plate changed every time I rented a different car, the EZ pass worked okay. Of course, that does require you to know where the EZ pass detectors are and hold the EZ pass up when you pass underneath - that was okay for me, since there was only one EZ pass checkpoint I had to use, but it wouldn't be practical if you are travelling through more. Hope this helps!
